Guitar Recording of video THE STORY OF DEEFLEXX

Deeflexx Systems were designed to be used on stage and in the studio. To give you an idea about different sound colours we put microphones on different sweetspots that Deeflexx offers.

Main guitar:
Humbucker-type guitar through plexish stereo amp; to expand the stereo effect a stereo chorus (low rate, full depth) was used on the amp and the stereo width was increased with a DAW plugin.
Side guitars – appearing to the left and right side:
Humbucker-type guitar through plexish amp
Singlecoil-type guitar through voxish amp

Recording the main guitar: We used 2 deeflexxed 1×12 cabinets stacked side by side. A dynamic mic was placed in between both Deeflexx to pick up the character of the cabinets. It contains more information than a small spot of the membrane.
To get even more acoustic information of the wooden cab and feature the warmth of the humbucker sound we decided to place 2 condenser mics on the side of each Deeflexx, but very near to the ground. At this low position we could add the warmth and width we wanted to have.

Centered position of the main microphone combined with 2 off-axis condenser microphone to get warmth and stereo width

Recording both side guitars: It was the idea to point out the character of a humbucker guitar combined with the fat sound of a well known early British stack. Therefore we used Contact Miking on the surface of the Deeflexx.

The single coil guitar was played through a British sounding combo that was used by a famous band of Liverpool. For instance we wanted to have a crisp clean (00:57) and an organic, dirty sound colour (02:04).
Depending on the sound of the amp we used the Deeflexx Contact- or Off-Axis-Miking to get the desired tone design. It’s like using a black/white or sepia filter when you want to give a picture a certain touch.

Off-axis ambient miking with a condenser microphone

Put on a good headphone or use high quality speakers when watching the video. Have a look on the photographs and read through the list to see how the sound was picked up.

Recording with Deeflexx offers a wide range from natural, organic to “right into the face” sounds. If you want to multiple the results of different colours you can use 2 mics parallel on different positions or 2 different types of mics.
Finding your sweetspots on or around the Deeflexx System will help you to create your unmistakable signature sound.
